Exploring the fun and excitement of movie-watching in a post-pandemic world: a light-hearted webtoon adventure

Duration

1 month

Background

Since COVID-19 started, movie theaters in South Korea have been losing money. To deal with this, new rules for watching movies were introduced during the "Living with COVID-19" phase. The old rules were "only open until midnight, one seat apart for groups, and no eating food." The new rules are "open all day, groups can sit together if they are vaccinated, and popcorn and drinks are allowed."

Concept

  1. Squid Game to Corn Game: The project changes the idea of "Squid Game" to a fun version called "Corn Game."

  2. Episode Toon and Cut Toon: The webtoon is divided into episodes and uses a cut-style format.

  3. Art Style: The story is light and fun, so the art will use simple lines and colours instead of very detailed drawings.

  4. Plot Summary: A young man and an old man go to the movie theatre together and share memories. The old man remembers a time when they couldn't eat popcorn or drink during the movie because of COVID-19. The young man tells him about the new movie theatre rules, making it exciting. The characters of a popular Korean movie theatre brand, CGV, ends the story by explaining the new rules in details.

"Corn Game"

The next game is to write a review after watching the movie "Corn."

Old guy: I used to watch a lot of movies in theatres like this.

Young guy: Wow, me too! When I was a kid, I really liked theatres that smelled like delicious popcorn.

Young guy: It seems like you’ve watched a lot of movies at CGV, right?

Old guy: Of course! There was a time when I watched three movies a day at CGV. I was a regular there.
Young guy: Haha, that’s really impressive!

Old guy: Then we should make a pact as CGV buddies!
Young guy: Sounds good! Haha.

Old guy: Where was my seat again?.. By the way, I couldn’t eat popcorn or wear a mask, and I sat one seat apart from my wife, but even though it was sad, I still had fun.
Young guy: It's right here, sir! Hurry and sit down!

The movie starts in 5 minutes.

Young guy: Sir!! There’s not much time left. The movie is about to start! If we don’t finish the movie, we might get trapped here!

Old guy: No way! Do you think I’m a child? I’m not going to watch the movie here!

Young guy: What?! But now we can eat popcorn, hot dogs, and drink soda while watching the movie!

Old guy: What did I say...?

Welcome back to CGV, everyone!
Now, Coni will introduce the newly changed theatre policies and ongoing events.

In the Covid era, eating and drinking are allowed, and you don’t have to sit apart from your party.
Also, CGV is running a 6,000 won discount event every day of the week.
Recover your daily life with vaccines, and restore your spirits in the theatre!
